We are delighted to join in with celebrating the publication of Knick Knacks Attacks, Volume 2 in Sophy Henn’s brilliant Happy Hills graphic novel series, which was published on 10 October.
The wacky residents of Happy Hills are a colourful bunch. There’s Ace, a down-to-earth unicorn in a bejewelled unitard (my 9 year old son loved that the unicorn was a boy!) Shroomer, the fearless fungi dreamer. Mimi, a heroically talented bunny. Sparks, a super cool little dragon. Cafe owner Duckie, party loving Disco Cat, cheekie little mouse Cheese, Spats the frog, and unflappable panda Captain.
In their latest adventure, they have caught the attention of villainous Knick Knacks, who likes collecting bits and bobs, whatsamajigs and ooojamaflips. And when I say collecting, I mean ‘swiping’, as Knick Knacks politely calls it. He doesn’t even stop at ‘swiping’ friends, whether they like it or not, so those Happy Hills residents better watch out!
Knick Knacks’ evil plan succeeds, and he manages to capture – ehm, I mean ‘swipe’ – them all, except for our bejewelled unicorn friend Ace. It’s up to him to find the gang and bring them home. Did I mention he’s really rubbish at map reading? Are the residents of Happy Hills doomed? Or will Ace save the day? And what happens to Knick Knacks? Well, if you’re hoping for some spoilers, you’re in the wrong place. You’ll need to read the book to find out!
The Happy Hills series is completely bonkers and off-the-wall, but it’s also thoroughly enjoyable with its cute cast of characters, humorous storylines, and colourful illustrations. It’s marketed as suitable for aged 5+ but even my teenager ended up reading it, after he heard his younger brother (who has now put Volume 1 of the series on his wish list for his upcoming birthday) going on about how much he loved it. Happy Hills is perfect for fans of Bunny vs Monkey and Dogman, and a great introduction to graphic novels for younger readers. Happy Hills: Knick Knacks Attacks is available from all well stocked independent booksellers, and if they don’t have it they can probably order it for you.
As a special bonus to celebrate the publication of Happy Hills: Knick Knacks Attacks, Sophy Henn has recorded a draw along tutorial for you, so you can learn how to draw Happy Hills hero Ace! You can watch the video, or scroll down for the step by step instructions.
Disclosure: We were gifted a free copy of Happy Hills: Knick Knacks Attacks in return for an honest review. All opinions are our own.
